First Night out PKing in Eve
Eve Online March 16th, 2007
So I picked up Eve Online a couple of months ago with the promise of many dead players and a lot of PvP fun. I haven’t played an online game for a long time because I tend to get too into them and spend far too much time playing. Eve let’s you train your character constantly whether you are online or offline so you don’t have to dedicate a ton of time developing your character. That was the first selling point. The deal closer was the fact that the game is full of player controlled space where you can freely attack anyone. I am a huge fan of the “wander out in to the wild and risk getting dead” mindset of games so this appealed to me.
I spent some time training up skills and learning the ins and outs of ship fitting until I couldn’t stand doing missions anymore fighting NPCs. The treadmill aspect of it bores me very quickly.
So last night I took out my lowly Merlin Frigate and went hunting. Since I wouldn’t last long out in 0.0 I decided to harass some miners instead. I found a system with a hand full of miners using jetcans so I let my pirate accomplice, Meat Bucket, know I had found a suitable system and waited for him to arrive. Once he was there (in a Merlin as well) we went about robbing miners blind hoping to get them to attack - this proved to be more difficult than anticipated. We think the reason the miners weren’t attacking was due to the fact that they were macro miners and weren’t really there.
Just when I was about to give up and go grab an industrial ship to haul out their ore we had a bit of luck, a Caracal! I was out of the system when the Caracal found my buddy so he played hide and seek with him until I got back. Once I returned my friend was already in there with the Caracal warp scrambled so I closed, locked, and opened fire. The Caracal had a good amount of sheild tank going on so it took us a bit to take his shields down but once we did it was all over for him. My friend got down to 1/2 structure before the Caracal popped but he survived and I never took a point of damage. We looted the wreck and thanked him for the fight in local then hung out until the flag wore off waiting for him to return. When he didn’t return we headed back to our own neck of the woods and I called it a night.
All in all it was tons of fun and I look forward to more PvP action in the Eve universe.
